Snyderverse Essay Summary Page

Several years ago on my old site I did a rewatch of most of the Snyderverse and typed up my thoughts on them. With the new Superman movie coming out I decided to repost them here with a little tweaking. Rather than dump a bunch of links at once on social media I decided to make a summary page here with links to each essay.

I will preface this with the fact that on average I liked these films, thought they tried some very interesting things and that they are better than their reputation would have people believe. I also discuss my experience with the fandom surrounding these films and why I have kind of burnt out on them. In general I wanted to be able to discuss the films, the strengths and weaknesses and just have a conversation. That seemed to be almost impossible to be frank. From day 1 these films were very polarizing, from the first trailer the reactions started and it was pretty much impossible to just discuss them as though they were any other film. That's why I finally sat down and just did my own writeup in my own space.

We begin with Man of Steel. A film I believe is very strong with some flaws (Jonathan Kent).

Next we have the most controversial film of the franchise. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

This writeup was split into 4 parts. I think the film is decent, does some things well but does have some flaws.

Batman V Superman Discussion Part 1 Recap Part 1
Batman V Superman Discussion Part 2 Recap Part 2
Batman V Superman Discussion Part 3 Characterization
Batman V Superman Discussion Part 4 General Thoughts and Miscellaneous

Then there's the least controversial film with Wonder Woman. Generally I think it's a great film that drops the ball with the ending.

A quick roundup of Suicide Squad (trainwreck), Aquaman (clunky but fun), Shazam (good), WW84 (garbage) before moving on to discuss the two versions of Justice League.

Next we have the original version of Justice League, a rather mixed bag of a film. This is more of a discussion than a recap/review.

Then we close out with the second version of Justice League where Zach got to come back and create a 4 hour movie for streaming. It's another mixed bag and again just a discussion piece not a recap/review.

I never did get around to seeing Shazam 2 or Aquaman 2 and that's why they aren't included here. I've also not included anything after James Gunn joining (The Suicide Squad and forward) because while there is some actor overlap they are in my mind not really part of the Snyder era of the DC films. I could see doing another series on them but don't feel it right now and I think it might be better to see how everything ties together in the future.
